Description:

Poison Maps is the ultimate Point of Interest app. It takes the display of “POIs on maps” to a new level; includes many new and unique methods of navigating maps; and even works offline, anywhere in the world!• Over 12 million POIs stored on your device, covering the whole world.• POIs are shown with names and recognizable icons instead of identical blobs.• Standard maps can be enhanced with customizable Background POIs.• Background POIs alone provide an “emergency map” that works without a data signal.• Compass mode also works anywhere in the world, even without a data signal.• Unique “ContextNav” functionality including:-> Signs to nearby POIs off the map-> Rapid one-touch panning-> Back / Forward buttons, like on a browserHUNDREDS OF TYPES OF POI:Poison Maps includes the vast majority of the POIs in the massive OpenStreetMap database. There are hundreds of types, from the usual ones (restaurants, bars, hotels, tourist attractions etc) to types that you won’t find on most POI apps, such as hills and mountains, toilets, banks & ATMs, public transport, pharmacies, emergency services, hospitals, post offices, shops, supermarkets, cinemas, theatres, fuel stations, car parks, sports centres, libraries, places of worship, civic buildings, and many more. You can configure the app to prioritize the points of interest to you: the food you like; the fuel or hotels you use; types of tourist attraction; places of worship etc.BACKGROUND POIS & OFFLINE FUNCTIONALITY:The app allows you to enhance the standard maps by displaying some or all of the POIs in the background, as if they are part of the map.If you are offline then recently viewed maps are automatically cached, but if you have not looked at an area before then these background POIs can also form a useful ‘emergency map’ that is not as comprehensive as a proper map but often with enough points to help you navigate.Compass Mode is another useful function if you are offline and your device has GPS. This mode just shows signs to nearby POIs of a selected type, indicating their direction and distance, and allowing you to easily follow a sign to your destination. It is also fun at viewpoints, helping identify what you can see in any direction.CONTEXTNAV (SIGNS, RAPID-PANNING & BROWSER BUTTONS):Poison Maps includes a set of unique (and mostly patent pending) extensions to map presentation and navigation that together we call ContextNav:“Context Signs” point to nearby POIs that are off the map. If you are looking at an area of the map with few or no POIs then signs will still show the direction and distance to other nearby POIs. Double tapping a sign pans the map to show the POI. Shaking the device gives a different selection of signs. The size, transparency and content of signs are all configurable. You can even set it so that signs to closer POIs are larger and/or less transparent.'Context Zooming” allows you to quickly see what is beyond the map edges. Simply tap and hold the map and it will zoom out, showing you what is around your current location. The longer you hold, the further it will zoom out. Lift your finger and it will zoom back in to where you were.“Context Panning” extends this to enable rapid panning. Tap and hold as before until you are zoomed out far enough, but then move your finger so that it is over the area that you wish to pan to. Lift your finger and the map zooms back in to the scale you were at, but showing the area you want. This approach to panning only requires 1 finger and 1 tap instead of lots of 2 finger pinching and many taps!Back & Forward Buttons: The final aspect of ContextNav is the inclusion of browser-like buttons that allow you to retrace your steps. Context Signs and Context Panning both enable you to move large distances very easily, so it’s handy to be able to move back again at the touch of a button.Poison Maps is the ultimate Point of Interest app, giving you the whole world in your pocket!
